“You’re all alone,” I said to him, drawing him closer to my face, and he licked my cheek. Hopefully he wasn’t licking blood, too. I couldn’t believe I was going to do this, but . . . “You want to come with me?” He licked my cheek again. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
“She can’t be ours. I know what you’re thinking, but she can’t be.” It was ridiculous how much my heart hurt saying that. Dallas clearly felt the same, because he groaned in disapproval. “Lift your head, I need to check her stomach and back.”
“Your boots are wet,” Diana whispered. Keeping my arms locked around her, I pulled back to find her eyes. “What?” “Operators hate getting their boots wet. And you’re doing that for me.”
“I also saw what could be between us the moment you set your mouth to mine.” My skin prickled from chills, goose bumps scattering across my body. “You kissed me, then our future played out like a movie in my head. It was so real I could’ve reached out and touched it. Touched us in the future. Our kids. Our—”
“Don’t remind me anyone else has ever made you feel good before. It makes me . . . unhinged.”
