“Can you see the stars?” he whispers. I see them. They betrayed me once, so I squeeze my eyes tighter, wishing I could unsee them. “They’re flying with you. They’re right by your side,” he tells me. “Just don’t look down.”
I’m killing him. And he’s bringing me back to life.
All I really know is that it does me a disservice to reject the possibility. I want to believe in them because the idea of those things brings me peace. It brings me hope that, perhaps, in some way, the stars are more than just stars, and that maybe, maybe…those stars really are on our side.
