Thiele had spent nearly every hurricane at Baptist. He stayed even though he wasn’t a hospital-based doctor and didn’t need to do so. He had practiced for twenty-one years, but there was nothing in his experience, nothing in anyone’s experience there at Memorial, to prepare them to solve the problems they were facing.
