Uranus also symbolizes the sudden onset of the initiation process and rupture with the world of everyday, the period of time outside society, and the quality of mental illumination that may accompany
Neptune represents the celestial realms of paradise with its deep feelings of unity, bliss, redemption from suffering, communion with cosmic beings, and divine all-embracing love. Here, the experience of ecstasy pervades as we are enraptured, overtaken and dissolved in an ocean of feeling. The obvious danger is that we may not want to return, or that when we do we feel confused, deceived and bereft, dreading the hard edges of the material world of separate forms, and perhaps longing to renounce the world altogether.
In the Underworld, we may visit the spirits of our ancestors: in psychological terms, here we meet and slowly come to terms with our particular psychological makeup and its roots in both our deeper ancestry and immediate family relationships.
Should Chiron aspect any of the outer planets, we may be strongly linked to the collective and generational themes of our times. We are invited to participate, experience and reflect on those events, themes and story-lines which define the period of history in which we live.
People who have this aspect are perhaps more than most inclined to search for an alternative framework of political, social or esoteric ideas in which they feel at home.
The gifts of Chiron-Uranus include the ability to give birth to the new without indiscriminately rejecting the old, a powerful intuitive sense, a capacity for compassionate detachment from emotionally laden ideas and situations, and a deep understanding of the process of creative thinking and innovation.
Chiron-Neptune people often have a strong charismatic presence, an aura of loving acceptance which attracts people who are suffering, in pain or need. However, this can degenerate into a situation of ‘power over’, mutual delusion, psychic vampirism and exploitation, where one person plays saviour and the other becomes the one who eternally suffers and is in need of redeeming.
Chiron-Pluto people may be drawn to situations that promise danger, excitement, sexual power and financial or emotional intrigue.
Although the theme of ‘the quest’ is central to the meaning of Chiron, this externalization is doomed to fail to the extent that it represents misplaced inner content, positive or negative. Perhaps the discovery of Chiron orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, heralds the de-concretizing of such images.
