Being right while others are wrong can be very satisfying. It is a way to feel safe and superior. Thus various religions and different sects within fundamentalist Christianity each claims to have the ultimate doctrinal truth. Despite the strife and anxiety that this produces, many are motivated to find security and self-importance by being right. In fact, more people have died in holy wars throughout history than in any other kind of war.
