This is commonly done in a sloppy fashion, with only thumb and forefinger in contact with the slide. That’s weak, and doing it wrong has given the slingshot method an undeserved reputation as a feeble technique. To do it properly, place the entire weak hand thumb on the slide, from thumbprint to “drumstick,” and securely grasp the other side of the slide with all four fingers.
