Huckabee wrote in his book Character Makes a Difference, “People say, ‘We ought to separate politics from religion,’ I say to separate the two is absolutely impossible.” In 1998, Huckabee and his wife, Janet, took out a full-page ad in USA Today thanking the Southern Baptists for supporting the idea that “a wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the leadership of Christ.” It could have been lifted wholesale from every IFB sermon I ever heard.
