Every person who leaves a cult has to overcome three primary hurdles. First, he must reprogram his conscience not to fear God’s imminent wrath for leaving the “truth” and instead learn to how think reasonably for himself. After a year out of the IFB, we were making strides in that direction. Second, a defector has to rebuild his entire network of personal and professional relationships.
