looks like if testosterone had a face. Pure, rippling masculinity. Eyes like preserved honey. Hands that, even now, are flexing and unflexing like they’re capable of doing so much more.
“You didn’t recognize me earlier. Now that you do, you still have no interest in marrying me. I’m a smart man, but I can’t figure out what you’re doing here, Francia.” “I’m here for…for…for fun.” “How convenient.” His eyes gleam. “I have an idea in that regard.”
Sex shouldn’t make you question the purpose of life. But this sex does.
Whoever said men moaning isn’t hot didn’t know what the hell they were talking about, because every time a new breathless snarl passes Ivan’s lips, I get another notch closer to exploding.
Choices and consequences. Consequences and choices. I’m making a choice. I’m more than ready to suffer whatever follows.
“You’re offering me a gilded cage,” I say. “But I’m supposed to be okay with it because you’re going to buy me whichever toothbrush my heart desires?” “A gilded cage is a lot better than a coffin, wouldn’t you say? That’s where you’ll be if you go back to your apartment. It isn’t safe.”
"But why do you even care who is after me? Who am I to you?" He raises his hand and grazes a calloused finger across my cheek. "No one. You’re an empty vessel I can use as I please. As bait. As a wife. That’s what makes you perfect for this, Cora.”
“I don’t want anyone to lay a fucking finger on her, understood? No one touches my woman but me.”
But I don’t want her in a separate room. I don’t want her out of my sight, period. I want to feel her body against me, her delicate hand stroking over my skin, her mouth letting loose those delicious little gasps…
“I am your boss, your judge, jury, and executioner,” he snarls. “I am the sun around which your world revolves. Do you understand?”
“I had my own plans for how to legitimize our marriage. But if you want to get a head start on the consummation… well, your adoring husband would never deny you something like that.” His words ooze sarcasm, but I burn up with them anyway. My body is on fire from the inside out, and I’m sure he can see it written in the blush coloring every inch of my skin.
“Stop worrying about other women trying to steal what they can’t have. Show them why it’s you. Show them why you’re mine…and why I’m yours.”
“And show me some fucking respect instead of eyeing my man like some dick-hungry slut. He’s mine.”
She floats down, sighing and holding onto my neck for dear life. I keep her there, pinned between the wall and my hips. The bride I never asked for. The queen I never saw coming.
want to find a person who makes me feel like I’ve found my place. It seems like you’ve found that. I’m really happy for you.”
“I just know I’ve seen the way Ivan looks at you. He doesn’t look at you like he wants to kill you; he looks at you like he wants to devour you.” I slump backward. “Having great sex does not mean that someone isn’t a murderer.”
“Because it isn’t safe for you. The closer you are to me, the more danger you’re in.” She chuckles miserably. “Funny, because the only place I’ve ever felt safe is close to you.”
