With a grin, I push off the railing. “Apparently.” I come to stand before him and extend a hand. When he’s on his feet, I pull him into a hug and give him a smack on the back. “She makes us better. All of us individually; all of us together. I know your first instinct is to protect, but there’s no danger here. She doesn’t need protection. She just needs you.” I don’t give him time to respond before I turn on my heel and head to bed.
