The relationship between capitalism and eco-disaster is neither coincidental nor accidental: capital’s ‘need of a constantly expanding market’, its ‘growth fetish’, mean that capitalism is by its very nature opposed to any notion of sustainability.
Any belief that the free market can solve the Real of climate catastrophe, is entirely naive. Markets rely on the constant accumulation and processing of resources, regardless of whether its a green market-based initiative or not- there is zero compatability between markets and the environment.
