It would be disruptive indeed if you changed your beliefs every time you encountered a new bit of evidence. I say “disruptive” because very few of our beliefs are wholly isolated. For example, my belief that global warming is a serious problem is connected to my belief that I was smart and virtuous to buy a hybrid car.
