There is another reason that the mystical dimension is resisted. Contemplation is not entertaining, and we have taught ourselves — or allowed ourselves to be propagandized into believing — that unless we are entertained by or at least preoccupied with something, we will almost immediately become bored. We unconsciously dread boredom because it throws us back upon our inner resources, and we’re often unaware that we have any.
