This is what God does: there is no sin too great for God to forgive. But he equally knows exactly what it is we’ve done and what it is he is forgiving. He doesn’t say, ‘Come now, my dear, that’s not too bad. I can easily wash this sin away.’ No. He knows what we have done, which is why he sent his Son to die; he doesn’t pass a sin off as inconsequential, but instead he forgives. Totally.
