Henry made a monster of June because he has a monster-creating mind. He is a madman. He suffered in June the very tortures he himself created, too, because June’s love for Henry was not at all monstrous, but probably as simple as mine for her. I did adopt Henry’s belief in the monstrosity of June. Now I see the human being June suffering; and I see how these two have failed to understand each other—but that June is the weakest because the contents of Henry’s mind have made her insane.
