Tagore's own idyllic nature caused him to spurn traditional schooling methods, preferring to wander around nearby towns and learn from experience. The dismal conditions of the towns caused a lasting impression on the boy. He would frequently reminisce on his memories in order to write about the abject poverty that the people of Calcutta lived in every day.
