Grief can seem overwhelming at times. You may feel helpless when you are flooded by emotions that are triggered by a memory, by a song being played in a store, or by watching other people enjoying each other. It may seem too intense to bear. You may feel as though you have only two choices, either to be swept up by the intensity of your grief or to shield yourself from the pain. Paradoxically, it is often when you try to resist intense emotions that they linger, and even hurt more deeply when they inevitably surface.
