Life behind the high walls of Britain’s most famous secure hospital has been rather serene. Certainly Sutcliffe fares better being cared for under the National Health Service than if he were a category ‘A’ prisoner in a maximum security gaol. For a start he enjoys a steady income courtesy of the taxpayer. He is on social security and is entitled to the equivalent of incapacity benefit, called a severe disablement allowance.
