Hoping for no justification, he will nevertheless take delight in living. He will not turn aside from things which he does not believe in. He will seek a pretext in them for a gratuitous display of activity.
So a nihilistic man will engage the world as if enjoying living, but is seeking to prove there is no justification for life and it all means nothing.
Whereas a serious man does not engage the world in a positive way and is afraid of how the world may endanger his concrete goal.
