When confronted with a trauma, the information processing system gets interrupted—like a blocked wound in the body—causing an ongoing array of PTSD symptoms. Just as the body is not able to heal a wound when there is debris in it, the brain often cannot process a trauma memory. In order for a wound to heal, we must clean it so the body can do its job.
