Exegesis has to do with finding out what a writer was attempting to communicate to that original situation, determining his or -64- her intention for the text. It asks the question “What was the writer trying to say?” Biblical theology, on the other hand, seeks to determine the big theological picture that lies between the lines and behind what the author wrote. It asks the question “What did the writer believe about . . .
