We managed to accomplish a lot of things in the first year after the launch, but one of our highest-priority items was to secure educational rights to many of our shows. That would enable teachers to legally tape these “rights-cleared” shows for use in the classroom without further compensation to the program producers. In order for this content to be easily identified by teachers, we created a one-hour program block that aired at the start of each weekday called Assignment Discovery, in which rights-cleared content in science, history, and other subjects was free for teachers to tape and show
