Morality, compassion, decency, and wisdom are the building blocks of all civilizations. These qualities must be cultivated in childhood and sustained through systematic moral education in a supportive social environment so that a more humane world may emerge.
The fact that people and phenomena change indicates that they actually do not have their own individual status just as they are; they are not able to set themselves up. Because they are foundationless, they can transform.
With cause and effect, unfavorable effects, such as pain, can be avoided by abandoning certain causes, like jealousy, and favorable effects, such as happiness, can be achieved by training in other causes, such as taking joy in others’ success.
