Firstly, the Popalzai plot to open the city gates had been discovered, and Shuja’s loyalists had been replaced with Ghilzai tribesmen loyal to the Barakzais. Secondly, it was learned that the Barakzais were preparing to make a strong resistance around Ghazni.
