The idea of seeing God is often related to the idea of satisfaction (happiness) in eternity, where God’s work of redemption is complete. In this sense, the beatific vision is a way to talk about the completion of God’s work of reconciliation—the culmination of what began when Jesus declared, “It is finished” (Jn 19:30). Life is a pilgrimage of faith that dissolves into sight. That sight is the beatific vision. Since the culmination of faith is sight, faith comes to take on attributes of sight.
