The Free will Defence
Summary
By far the most important attempt at a solution to the Problem of Evil is the Free Will Defence. This is the claim that God has given human beings free will, the ability to choose for ourselves what to do.
Those who accept the Free Will Defence argue that, it is a necessary consequence of having free will that we should have the possibility of doing evil, otherwise it would not genuinely be free will. Because if we were pre-programmed to be automata, we could not even call our actions morally good since moral goodness depends on having a choice about what we do.
