If only the times were different, if only he had been smarter . . . But he wants to fight. He’s like the very fathers he wants to be rid of. That’s the tyranny of the problem. Trying to be faithful to what he’s trying to be rid of. Trying to be faithful and to get rid of what he’s faithful to at the same time. And that’s why he went to fight in the first place, as best I can figure it out.
