To be something abnormal meant that you were to serve the normal. And if you refused, they hated you . . . and often the normal hated you even when you did serve them.
As a person of African ancestry in America, this quote is relevant. It is an important and painful truth. It is commentary on so many of our lived experiences even as so many are in a place of denial and dissonance unavoidable because of our current and historical reality.
