“You’re being difficult.” Slade scowled down at her. “Did you not hear what I said? You should be pressing your body against mine, unable to resist our mutual attraction, and asking for my unsurpassed protection. You are an innocent flower caught in a storm.”
“I’m never concerned about other men in a woman’s past. After she’s been with me, she doesn’t remember them, anyway.”
Kara nodded. “Well, I do know the reason. The reason why sometimes you have a walking stick and sometimes you don’t. The reason your scar moves around your face. I even know your sister’s name was Amalie.” Damien’s jaw sagged. “You’re stuck in the Matrix, Neo.” Kara nodded as if that made perfect sense. “Sit down and let me tell you about the publishing world.”
“It’s bullshit!” He surged to his feet, rage continuing to fill him at this new Vampire trick. “All of it. Pure fiction!” “Exactly. Fiction. It’s a romance novel. You see?” “It’s vampire propaganda!” He waved the manuscript at her.
Sometimes, Damien greatly feared he was the only being with a brain left in the entire world.
“Do you ever sit around and devise plans to take over the world?” Damien shrugged. “Doesn’t everyone?”
