Othic was the smallest guy in the company, and looked about thirteen, so he was assigned (per standard operating procedure) to the biggest gun, a “Ma-Deuce,” the Browning M-2 .50-caliber machine gun, which was mounted in the roof turret of his Humvee. Othic had made a bit of a name for himself early on in the deployment by inadvertently stealing General Garrison’s personal Humvee. The turret on his own kept sticking and his sergeant told him to trade it in for another one “over there,” pointing toward the motor pool. So Othic had just picked out the one that looked cleanest.
