Anger is a highly stimulating emotion. HSPs are strongly affected by it, even when we just witness it. If we are expressing it or are the recipient of it, of course we will be aroused beyond our optimal level—our hearts pound, our minds become fuzzy. If the anger is toward us, we also may take what is said very seriously. We will process accusations deeply. The fear of angry attacks is greatly exacerbated for an HSP who grew up in a family where angry outbursts were common and led to nothing constructive.
