Some of Kimelman’s conclusions are worth quoting in full, since in the decade since his article was published they have not had their full impact even though they have never been refuted: There is no unambiguous evidence that Jews cursed Christians during the statutory prayers. There is abundant evidence that Christians were welcome in the synagogue. Thus birkat ha-minim does not reflect a watershed in the history of the relationship between Jews and Christians in the first centuries of our era.
