I’d known Noah since the fourth grade, but it felt like I knew him in the same way that I know people on television. I knew the name. I watched the show. Sure, Noah was a bit closer than that…but somehow when it’s real, when it’s your life…that person can feel even farther off and more unobtainable than an actual celebrity. Proximity doesn’t breed familiarity.
I knew it was beautiful, but knowing something is beautiful and caring about it are two very different things, and I didn’t care.
It’s a Wonderful Life
It’s always about you, isn’t it?
“Christina.” “Just tell me the truth: Am I a good person? Or am I, like, too self-absorbed?” She considered. “Does it have to be either/or?”
“We are all flawed, my dear. Every one of us. And believe me, we’ve all made mistakes.”
“You’ve just got to take a good hard look at yourself, change what needs to be changed, and move on, pet.”
She lowered her voice. “And if you’re wondering why I get to tell you this, it’s because I’ve decided to pursue a new profession: Christmas angel.”
“Oh, no, Christmas is never over, unless you want it to be.” She leaned on the counter and propped her chin on her palm. “Christmas is a state of mind.”
“sometimes when we forget to do things for others, like this Tegan, it’s because we’re too wrapped up in our own problems.”
“When actually, what we need to forget is ourselves.”
“Silly girl, it’s not what the universe gives us that matters. It’s what we give the universe.”
Every time a bell rings, an angel gets her wings.
