He doesn’t want you to worship Him with just your memory; He wants you to worship Him with your imagination as well. Love isn’t repetitive; love is creative.
“When you pray,64 don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!”
We do things without thinking about them. If we aren’t careful, we pray without thinking — and that is just as destructive as thinking without praying.
Do something different. Get out of your regular routine, and pray a new prayer to the Lord.
If you want God to do something new, you cannot keep doing the same old thing.
“If My words abide in you …” JOHN 15:7 NASB
One of the surest ways to get into the presence of God is to get into the Word of God. If we get into God’s Word, God’s Word will get into us. It will radically change the way we think, the way we live, the way we love.
We have to abide in the Word of God and let the Word of God abide in us.
When we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place, we must stand on the Word of God and trust His promises.
We cannot abide in the Word of God and not be moved to action. We cannot sit on the sidelines.
Wherever you read the pronoun you, insert your name. It will help you take what you read more literally, more personally.
Reading without meditating is like eating without digesting.
“What do you want me to do for you?” MATTHEW 20:32
The more faith we have, the more specific our prayers will be. And the more specific our prayers are, the more glory God receives. If our prayers aren’t specific, however, God gets robbed of the glory He deserves because we second-guess whether or not He actually answered them.
Well-developed faith results in well-defined prayers, and well-defined prayers result in well-defined answers.
Too often we rob God of the opportunity to answer our prayers because they are so vague. Don’t worry about when God answers or how God answers. That isn’t our responsibility. Our responsibility is to simply discern what God wants, and then humbly yet boldly to ask Him for it. And God will throw in a few holy surprises along the way because He may spell the answer differently than we spelled the request.
Most of us don’t get what we want because we don’t know what we want.
“… and by the word of their testimony …” REVELATION 12:11
“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”
Giving testimony is the way we give God all of the glory. But we also need to share it because others need to hear it. If we don’t share our testimonies of how God is working in our lives, then others are tempted to think He isn’t working at all.
A personal testimony is our secret weapon, and that’s why the enemy wants us to keep our testimony a secret. It’s not a testimony if we don’t share it with others. If we don’t share our testimonies, we are robbing God of the glory He deserves. And we aren’t just holding out on God; we are holding out on those who need to hear it.
Don’t be satisfied with simply going to church; get into God’s presence. Don’t be satisfied with hearsay; get a word from the Lord. Don’t be satisfied with secondhand faith; get a testimony!
And if God is ordering my footsteps, and I believe He is, then He is going to make sure I get where I need to go and meet whomever I need to meet.
You need to go get a testimony! Then you need to share it.
Aaron and Hur held his hands up — one on one side, one on the other. EXODUS 17:12
We may have different church names over the door, but there is one church and one Shepherd of the church.
He has no jurisdiction in our lives if we are covered by the blood of Jesus, but we also need a prayer covering.
And there will be times when we feel the enemy launching a frontal assault on our family or business or church. That’s when we need to stay on our knees and pray through.
Spiritual warfare can be scary and lonely, but I’ve always been strangely encouraged when I encounter increased spiritual opposition or oppression. It means I’m doing something right. It means I’m riling up the enemy. It’s means I’m inching closer to the breakthrough. And just when the fighting gets fiercest, I know that God is getting ready to go to battle for me.
Prayer is the pen that writes history. Don’t worry about making headlines; focus on the footnotes. And if you focus on the footnotes, God will write the headlines.
If you intercede for others, make sure others are interceding for you.
And the remnant shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. 2 KINGS 19:30 KJV
“If my people,81 who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
If we circle the promises of God, God will deliver on them. It’s not a question of if; it’s only a question of when. But if we are determined to pray as long as it takes, revival will come.
Since the National Day of Prayer, I’ve been circling 2 Kings 19:30. I believe it’s a promise for our generation, for every generation.
“Once more a remnant of the kingdom of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.”
We’ve got to press into the presence of God as never before. Like the members of the Order of the Mustard Seed, we must covenant to seek83 God with all our heart and soul.
When the prayer meeting becomes the most important meeting, revival is around the corner.
“Do not despise these small beginnings.” ZECHARIAH 4:10 NLT
But if we pray like the members of the early church did, Pentecost can happen anywhere. Our prayers have the potential to write and rewrite history.
We cannot worry about what we cannot do; we have to simply do what we can.
If we try to exalt ourselves, God will find a way to humble us. But if we humble ourselves, God will find a way to exalt us.
Humility is how we get out of the way of what God wants to do. And if we stay out of God’s way, then there is nothing God cannot do in us and through us.
If we do the ordinary, God will add an extra to it.
“Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” MATTHEW 6:20
What we keep we ultimately lose; what we give away we ultimately get back.
“Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven.” MATTHEW 18:18
the purpose of prayer is not to get what you want; the goal of prayer is to discern what God wants, what God wills.
a low view of God94 is the cause of a hundred lesser evils and a high view of God is the solution to ten thousand problems.
God is so much bigger than our biggest problems. God is so much better than our best thoughts. He is infinitely wiser and more gracious and powerful than anything we can imagine.
