This book is simply an attempt to help you discover a way to tell yourself the truth about what you are and what you are not.
Confidence is just another way to describe our belief systems.
Every time I hear someone say, “I feel confident,” I ask them if confidence is a feeling or a thought. Most think of it as an emotion. Confidence at an unconscious level may seem like an emotion because of the individual’s sense of being controlled by the belief. However, once you become conscious of confidence, you quickly realize that confidence is a thought, not an emotion.
Beliefs control biology, biology controls behavior, and behavior determines success.
Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle. – Abraham Lincoln
After you have shifted your focus from “perfect” to “best,” ask yourself: “Did I get better today? Did I move another step towards my goal, my full potential?”
Remember: you are not trying to be the winner—you are trying to be a winner. The greatest men and women are not competing against you; they are competing against themselves each and every day. You are your greatest competition. And the next time you hear someone brag about how they gave 110 percent, let that be a reminder of what not to do or say.
Remember: Fear is your opponent. No one is better or faster than you—only less afraid.
It’s all about fear. If you kill fear, you win. If you kill fear, you have your best year ever. If you kill fear, you train like a mad man. If you kill fear, you go to college for free. If you kill fear, you stand on the podium, you get paid, you have strangers walk up to you and call you by name. When fear dies, you begin to live.
Greatness is not about being rational and realistic—it’s about irrational, crazy thinking.
Successful people have a great sense of purpose and expectation for their lives. They are on the path of purpose even though they don’t truly know where it will lead.
More often than not, the desire to be perfect actually hinders performance. The fact of the matter is that there is no success without failure. How you respond to failure defines your success.
Loss and pain are the great motivators to change. Failure leads to change, and change leads to improvement.
“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”
The message is clear, the only way you can fail is to give up.
No matter how desperate your situation may be, there is always something you can do. You are never a victim, never without a choice. The more difficult the situation, the more challenging it is to recognize what options or choices one has. But remember, you always have a choice.
