“Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law.”16 This was what Kant called the categorical imperative.17 In other words, judge the rightness of your actions by asking this question: What if everyone acted this way? This truth is synonymous with what Jesus taught in the golden rule: “Do to others as you would have them do to you” (Luke 6:31 NIV).
