“Not doing pictures these days?” Jacin muttered as they hurried through the shop. “How very Lunar of you.” Cinder glared against the sudden, burning sunlight. “Very wanted criminal of me too.”
One girl had even been proud to show Cinder her new, real tattoo—wires and robotic joints overtaking the skin of her left foot. Cinder had smiled awkwardly and resisted the urge to tell her that the tattoo wasn’t cybernetically accurate.
She was, against her better judgment, beginning to warm to Iko.
Her heart twisted. “Captain?” He perked up. “Yeah?” She picked at the chiffon overlay of her skirt. “Do you think it was destiny that brought us together?” He squinted and, after a thoughtful moment, shook his head. “No. I’m pretty sure it was Cinder. Why?”
