8Some people say, ‘We believe in God and the Last Day,’ when really they do not believe.

11When it is said to them, ‘Do not cause corruption in the land,’ they say, ‘We are only putting things right,’ 12but really they are causing corruption, though they do not realize it. 13When it is said to them, ‘Believe, as other people believe,’ they say, ‘Should we believe as the fools do?’ but they are the fools, though they do not know it. 14When they meet the believers, they say, ‘We believe,’ but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, ‘We’re really with you; we were only mocking.’ 15God is mocking them,

24If you cannot do this—and you never will—then beware of the Fire prepared for the disbelievers, whose fuel is men and stones.

Turns out they have hell too.

25[Prophet], give those who believe and do good the news that they will have Gardens graced with flowing streams. Whenever they are given sustenance from the fruits of these Gardens, they will say, ‘We have been given this before,’ because they were provided with something like it.b They will have pure spouses and there they will stay.

28How can you ignore God when you were lifeless and He gave you life, when He will cause you to die, then resurrect you to be returned to Him?

29It was He who created all that is on the earth for you, then turned to the sky and made the seven heavens; it is He who has knowledge of all things.

31He taught Adam all the names [of things],

49Remember when We saved you from Pharaoh’s people, who subjected you to terrible torment, slaughtering your sons and sparing only your women—this was a great trial from your

3If you fear that you will not deal fairly with orphan girls,c you may marry whichever [other]d women seem good to you, two, three, or four. If you fear that you cannot be equitable [to them], then marry only one, or your slave(s):e that is more likely to make you avoid bias.

7Men shall have a share in what their parents and closest relatives leave, and women shall have a share in what their parents and closest relatives leave, whether the legacy be small or large: this is ordained by God.

11Concerning your children, God commands you that a son should have the equivalent share of two daughters.

34Husbands should take good care of their wives, witha [the bounties] God has given to some more than others and with what they spend out of their own money. Righteous wives are devout and guard what God would have them guard in their husbands’ absence. If you fear high-handednessb from your wives, remind them [of the teachings of God], then ignore them in bed, then hit them.c If they obey you, you have no right to act against them: God is most high and great.

belongs to God. God has the knowledge to decide. 171People of the Book, do not go to excess in your religion, and do not say anything about God except the truth: the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was nothing more than a messenger of God, His word, directed to Mary, a spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers and do not speak of a say ‘three’—stop [this], that is better for you—God is only one God, He is far above having a son, everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Him and He is the best one to trust.

12What will explain to you what the steep path is? 13It is to free a slave, 14to feed at a time of hunger 15an orphaned relative 16or a poor person in distress, 17and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 18Those who do this will be on the right-hand side,

1By the sun in its morning brightness2 and by the moon as it follows it, 3by the day as it displays the sun’s glory 4and by the night as it covers it, 5by the sky and how He built it 6and by the earth and how He spread it, 7by the soul and how He formed it8 and inspired it [to know] its own rebellion and piety, 9the one who purifies his soul succeeds 10and the one who corrupts it fails.

5What will explain to you what the Crusher is? 6It is God’s Fire, made to blaze, 7which rises over people’s hearts. 8It closes in on them 9in towering columns.b
