“Right. I’m fine, you’re fine, everything’s fine. Oh, look, I think a rainbow’s sprouting out of your ass.”
“Don’t trip over the rainbow, sunshine!”
“I can tell by your horrified expression you were hoping for someone else,”
“You, uh, have a knife sticking out of your leg.”
“What’s wrong?” She sighed and scooted closer to me. “You seem upset.” “Nothing. Just thinking.” “About what?” “Oh, you know.” I reached out and played with a bit of the comforter. “Guns, blood, revenge, typical boy stuff.”
“Who died?” Mo said from the doorway. “The old couple,” Trace clarified. “You killed an elderly couple?” Tex asked as he peeked into the room. The sad part was that he actually looked intrigued.
“Every Saint has a past, every sinner has a future.”
“Death always is,” I mumbled. “An appointment, I mean. We all have our time. Sometimes it’s not up to us to schedule it, sometimes we miss it, and other times…” “Someone carries it out for you,” Chase finished.
“Seriously? What the hell is wrong with you?” “So many things.”
“I aim to please.” “No, you aim to kill.”
I loved bleak futures. Truly, they were what got me through the monotony of life.
“Because you fought, and regardless of the outcome, your success was in the journey.”
“Apparently, I fall on tables and shit.”
“I never did get your sense of humor.” “I wasn’t being funny, Dad.”
“Well, stop being sarcastic or I’m going to kill you myself!”
“She scares me,” Tex announced once we were on the road. I laughed. “Yeah, well imagine what she was like before reform school.”
“The danger does not come in the evil, but in the person. Evil is everywhere, but in the end it is always a choice.”
A ghost will be there to watch your back, as ghosts tend to do.
“One doesn’t get used to assiness, one just learns to cope with its many faces.”
After a few seconds Mo spoke. “You’re getting blood on the floor.” “Not the time, Mo,” Tex hissed.
“Besides, romance isn’t something you work at—not when you find the right girl. When you fall in love, when you take that leap, it’s as natural as breathing; it’s as simple as that. I’m romantic because my heart demands I be nothing less than one hundred percent, for you, day and night.”
