Paul Fannin, a political neophyte whom Goldwater called the worst speaker he had ever heard, became one of two new Republican governors (Nelson Rockefeller of New York was the other). Johnny Rhodes once more won reelection to Congress. And Goldwater scored a come-from-behind upset, carrying eleven of fourteen counties and 56 percent of the vote.
