Though Debord does not say as much it is clear that the notion of the secret as means of access to power promotes a delirious paranoia; like a circular labyrinth there is always another layer of secrecy to be penetrated but there is no final inner cabal, no capo di tutti capi (boss of all bosses) pulling the strings: the final instance ‘calling the shots’ (often literally) is the market economy itself.
