Every action we undertake (our so-called ‘lifestyle’ - usually lacking both life and style) is subject to an injunction to calculate the effect on the social ‘ecology’ around us. In the name either of an ‘enlightened’ pragmatism or a pernicious moralism the pseudo-choices we are presented with come with an impossible burden of ‘responsibility’ for their consequences.
