Sir Charles Sherrington, the grandfather of modern neurophysiology, alleges that “much of the reflex reaction expressed by the skeletal musculature is not motile, but postural, and has as its result not a movement but the steady maintenance of an attitude.”89 I would add that postures are the platforms from which intrinsic movement is initiated.
