This may be the most absurd political statement I've ever heard, delivered with such apparent sincerity. The modern political conservative is (and I don't even this is a controversial statement), entirely soulless and hence, without anything but material and reputation-derived desires. Their wants can always be seen as essentially economic in nature, if not to do primarily with prestige or respectability. “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” -Sun Tzu
