Gibberellin controls seed germination, and ethylene promotes stem thickening, especially in seedlings. In some species at least, abscisic acid brings on dormancy, whereas gibberellin revives them from winter sleep. In some species, artificially applied gibberellin promotes flower formation and increases fruit size.
