The book of Genesis leaves us with a striking truth—work was part of paradise.
we do not see work brought into our human story after the fall of Adam, as part of the resulting brokenness and curse; it is part of the blessedness of the garden of God. Work is as much a basic human need as food, beauty, rest, friendship, prayer, and sexuality; it is not simply medicine but food for our soul.
Competency is a basic value. It is not a means to some other end, such as wealth or position, although such results may occur.
“in language after language the same word is used for toil and child-bearing, e.g. ‘labor’ and ‘travail.’”
Heidegger, Docx, and others such as Jacques Ellul 138 are saying that technology, uncertainty, and the market have become the idols of a postmodern society.
