Paul starts the whole chapter with, “I urge you . . . in view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice.” What is it about God’s mercy that, if you viewed it, would allow you to become a living sacrifice—into a person who died to your own needs, who stopped doing the work under the work, and who transferred your passion to God? The answer, of course, is Jesus, the ultimate living sacrifice and the ultimate form of God’s mercy.
