The near enemy of equanimity is detachment or indifference. Especially in spiritual practice, it is easy to mistake dangling above the unkemptness of life for genuine equanimity. We are open and friendly and serene and proud that we’ve transcended emotional upheaval. If we feel distress, embarrassment, or anger, we think we’ve really blown it.
