To anyone who feels they can’t be loved. You can, and are.
To Quinn’s delight, Brandon took the bait. “I could do it without him, but why not use the resources you’re gifted with?” Was he kidding? Even though she knew the answer was no, it was hard to think anyone was that unaware, especially anyone around sharp objects as frequently as he was. Quinn rolled her eyes but kept walking, hoping he’d get the message.
They couldn’t explain it, but something about the figure felt familiar, almost like home. That didn’t make any sense.
“Aren’t you worried about me running away from life debt or whatever?” Her face betrayed that she hadn’t meant to say that, but she stared at them for an answer, nonetheless. They recovered quickly. “Well, unless you can swim to the closest human island, which is well over 3,000 miles away, I don’t think you’re going anywhere. Oh, and there’s a magical barrier between my land and the next. People pay top dollar to live here, and they value their privacy.”
“Okay, fine, I was thinking about how it must be nice to essentially have an extra set of hands. No judging though.”
“They told you about the mainland?” Shit. Maybe she wasn’t supposed to say that. “Yeah. It’s a paranormal paradise,” she joked, trying to lighten the mood. “The true Area 51.”
