it is not at all uncommon for companies to hire kids right out of school, form them into “teams,” and ask them to build the most critical systems. It’s insane! Painters don’t do this. Plumbers don’t. Electricians don’t. Hell, I don’t even think short-order cooks behave this way! It seems to me that companies who hire CS graduates ought to invest more in their training than McDonalds invests in their servers. Let’s not kid ourselves that this doesn’t matter.
